Eco-Friendly Decor Manufacturing

For more than 17 years, Greenscape Design & Décor has offered sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives for our rental and commercial sales clients.  While we seek environmentally responsible products and practices in our internal operations and raw material sources, we also engineer and manufacture our products to give our clients the peace of mind that their eco-footprint is reduced when selecting our décor designs and products.

Manufacturing

  • our products are easily repaired or redesigned so replacement is often avoided
  • superior construction and durable products means less replacement costs and reduced waste
  • custom designed trees are built in Canada with 60% natural and local materials
  • custom built wooden planters can be made with 100% local and natural wood products
  • LEED-credit planter options, manufactured with post-consumer recycled materials, are available for commercial sales clients
  • existing trees, plants, floral arrangements and existing décor pieces can be refurbished or reworked into a new custom design
  • steel structural components have a long life cycle and can be endlessly reused and recycled

Designer Reflection: Sometimes Fake is Better, Sometimes Real Rocks

My favourite Greenscape design project to date would have to be the beautiful Woven Wood Wall that we created for the award winning Creations Lounge at the Sawridge Inn and Conference Centre in Edmonton.

Sawridge - Finished Wall

Working hand in hand with Mona Foreman from Sheffield Design, we designed a 20’ long by 10’ tall hand crafted piece of art!

The concept was to create an organic, basket woven effect out of wood—no easy task. Starting with custom fabricated raw birch wood veneer, we spent hours on our hands and knees working to make each piece unique.

We hand-split the veneer pieces to give them a more natural finished edge and then hand-stained them in various shades to give a nice gradation of colour throughout the piece. We rigged cable and wrapped it with birch poles to act as our vertical points at 1’ intervals and then began to weave. After the horizontal pieces were in place, we added accent twigs and moss to create a highly organic, living effect. Upon completion, this was a highly sustainable, eco friendly, high impact art wall manufactured entirely in Canada, using natural Canadian products and renewable girl power.

Mona from Sheffield Design took her inspiration for the lobby and restaurant renovation from the rich culture of the Cree Nations. Her vision is a treat for the senses and is absolutely stunning, with looming 24’ evergreen trees (also provided by us), an enormous dream catcher, vast badlands hoodoos, a 17’ long water wall feature, floating fire pit, and even an art gallery that presents new works throughout the year. This unique space is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen and I am so proud to have been able to be a part of bringing it to life.

Teaming up once again with Sheffield Designs brought us to Edmonton for a major restaurant and lobby/front entrance renovation.

Our team transformed an outdated Santa Fe themed area into a spectacular Cree Nation inspired landmark that was complete with an award winning dining room and art gallery. Creating a dozen majestic 24’ tall evergreens with prairie indigenous shrubbery and forest floor plantings took our team of six over two weeks to install. We also had the challenge of designing and building a 10’ high by 20’ long birch veneer woven wall that the project designer had envisioned. Hand stained and split raw veneer was woven through silver birch poles to create a beautiful, organic backdrop to an impressive rock feature as you first enter the space. The remarkable décor also includes eight-foot hoodoos, and enormous dream catcher, a 12 foot long fireplace, and a 17 foot long waterfall. http://www.sawridgeedmonton.com/
